Section of Gastroenterology

The Department of Medicine – Section of Gastroenterology is a specialized medical facility where doctors use a thin, flexible tube with a camera (endoscope) to examine and treat issues in the digestive system, such as the stomach, esophagus, intestines, and bile ducts.

The team includes skilled gastroenterologists and nurses who perform procedures like colonoscopies, upper endoscopies, and ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography) to diagnose and treat conditions such as removing polyps, stop bleeding, treat blockages or tumors in the bile and pancreatic ducts. The department focuses on providing accurate diagnoses, preventive care, and minimally invasive treatments in a safe and comfortable environment

Achievements

The department is recognized locally and being one of the preferred hospitals for referrals of ERCP cases. One other achievement internationally is its contributions to Gl research, including a research poster presentation by one of the gastroenterology fellows at a global medical conference entitled "Correlation of Biopsy-free scoring systems and Transient Elastography as screening tools for Liver Fibrosis of Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and Metabolic Associated Fatty Liver Disease (MAFLD)."
