The department of Obstetrics and Gynecology was established in 1957 after the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center College of Medicine was founded in 1956. Since then, the department has played an important role in the holistic education of medical students, and training of specialists and we have produced world class doctors and Obstetrician Gynecologists who have also become pillars of the profession in the Philippines.
Our team of board certified OB-GYNs and resident physicians deliver compassionate, quality care, utilizing current evidence-based guidelines and using updated technology and equipment. In addition to general obstetricians and gynecologists, we have subspecialists in the field of Reproductive Medicine, Oncology (Malignancy),Gynecologic Infectious disease(Sexually Transmitted Infections) Maternal Fetal Medicine (High Risk Obstetrics), Pediatric Gynecology, Urogynecology and OB-GYN Ultrasound. The services we offer include pre-natal care of low and high risk pregnancies, lactation consultation, preventive care or wellness visits, management of Infertility, family planning, diagnosis of management of gynecologic infections, care of the menopausal woman, diagnosis and management of pre-malignant and malignant disease and OB-GYN ultrasound.
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has been continuously accredited for training by the Philippine Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology since 1960. Our faculty have pursued masteral degrees and subspecialties and have played vital roles in the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society. There have been eleven past and present members of the faculty who have become Presidents of our specialty society and subspecialties. We also have five members of the faculty who have been Chairpersons of the Philippine Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Because of the dedication and qualifications of our faculty, our residency training program has had a passing rate of 99 % in the Parts I and II Diplomate examination. Our graduates also have produced scientific works that have been recognized internationally and locally and these papers have influenced the practice of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Philippines.
We are also at the forefront of improving patient care and are involved in crafting guidelines for the management of labor and delivery, producing practice bulletins for the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society , and guidelines on different gynecologic malignancies. (Society of Gynecologic Oncologists of the Philippines). Most importantly we have been delivering quality free service in our Out patient department and Service hospital, for the less fortunate members of the society. We have been actively involved in numerous socio-civic activities( free clinics, Buntis day, cervical cancer screening) and in accreditation and training of hospitals in the country, which is instrumental in the improvement of OB-GYN care in the Philippines.
